Gloom of Kilforth: A Fantasy Quest Game Expansions

Created by Tristan Hall

Gloom of Kilforth is a game of high fantasy with a gothic edge, where 1-4 players, working individually or together, assume the roles of heroes on a journey through a dark world of magic and peril. Each player follows their hero’s tale, an epic saga from modest beginnings through to a climactic battle that will decide the fate of the world...

Hey you - how are you??

Just a quick one to let you know we're still here and we're still thinking of you!  The art is still rolling in, and for thoe of you who backed us the first time around you'll know that we love spoilering it - so I'll try to keep spoilers to a minimum this time. With that in mind here's a quick sneak peek at one of the epic landscapes coming to the world of Kilforth in the near future - this one's from Touch of Death:

I. Want. To. Go. There.
I. Want. To. Go. There.

GoK in another Top Ten!!

Gloom of Kilforth in another top ten list! :D This time it's one of our favourite board game personalities, One Stop Co-op Shop:

Big shout out for us from Unlucky Frog Gaming on their gaming podcast (from around the 20 minute mark):

We're Not Wizards were kind enough to invite Mark Chaplin and myself onto their gaming podcast to talk about Lifeform:

Lifeform is Live!!

And here's the bit where we ask for your help!

This will be the first of two updates we'll send about this to keep your inbox as clear as possible - one for launch, and one for the final reminder, so feel free to skip on if sci-fi horror is not your bag!

Mayday, Mayday! Systems failing, crew missing! Alien lifeform seen! Request urgent assistance! Oh God! Two dead, two still missing. Self destruct activated. It mustn’t get back... Save our souls!! +++++

 Alone in the darkness...

From the award-winning team behind Gloom of Kilforth: A Fantasy Quest Game and 1066, Tears To Many Mothers, and from the maverick minds of Toby Farrands and legendary designer Mark Chaplin - creator of Revolver and Invaders - Lifeform is the ultimate experience of gruelling terror in the darkest, most forbidden reaches of deep space!

Lifeform is a game of survival horror for up to 4 players. One player is an unstoppable, utterly hostile alien. All other players are the crew of the doomed mining starship Valley Forge. Lifeform can also be played alone with the solo expansion Dragon's Domain where the player fights to survive against the game itself.

Racing against the self-destruct timer, the crew must search their labyrinthine ship for weapons and supplies to load onboard the escape shuttle, whilst the alien lifeform ruthlessly tears the crew apart one by one...

No marines. No power armour. Just terror...

Gloom of Kilforth: Encounters - March 2018
over 1 year ago – Thu, Mar 01, 2018 at 05:48:47 PM

Hey y'all!

Just checking in - how are you?

Incomplete Orders!!

There are still 39 of you who haven't filled in your BackerKit details - please don't miss out guys!!  We've sent many reminders to you peeps with incomplete orders, but if you're not sure what's going on you can contact me directly here: ninjadorg at gmail dot com.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at

As with the original Gloom of Kilforth, there is a tonne of art going into this expansion content so it's a slow but steady process.  For those of you who added Touch of Death to your pledge we're also developing the redonculous amount of art needed for that epic project too.  I'd love to have a significant portion of it complete before we launch the Touch of Death Kickstarter so we're that much closer to manufacturing next time around.

This is kind of a strange one for me because all of the design development for Gloom of Kilforth and its expansions is complete from my point of view, so apart from briefing and guiding the artists there's very little I can do to speed things up apart from chasing them regularly (which I do!) - so I'm kind of in the same boat as you guys in that respect, waiting for it all to coalesce.

In any case here's another sneaky art teaser for you - please welcome the beautiful elf maiden Silvara whose friendly nature will see her join your party and aid you in your quest*...

Ain't she just gorgeous??

Bloomin' Tabletop Gaming Magazine only went and gave us a flippin' two page Hall or Nothing bonanza spread by Empire magazine's expert gaming and movie guru Dan Jolin - you can pick up the latest issue including our feature article, which is out now:

And here's a light-hearted interview I did with the chaps at Game Mountain:

The Slate!!

Here's where we're up to with our current Slate of projects at Hall or Nothing Productions:

So, technically this is the end of the Gloom of Kilforth update, but if you're interested in our other projects too, please continue reading...

Recently we've been interviewing some powerhouse fantasy game designers for our #BoardChitless podcast.

#BoardChitless Episode 22 - Isaac Childres' Gloomhaven Interview

Isaac Childres gave me some tips and friendly advice to improve the page layout for the original GoK Kickstarter when we went head to head with Gloomhaven back in 2015, and he's such a nice bloke I knew we had to get him on the show:

#BoardChitless Episode 21 - Frank West's The City of Kings Interview

We recently chatted to our friend and fellow game designer Frank West about his blazing success on Kickstarter with the fantasy epic City of Kings - you can listen to the full interview on our BoardChitless podcast here:

Intellectual Property Coup!!

We also have a number of other projects in development including an IP that I'm really excited for, which I'd love to tell you more about but am currently under NDA.  I'll be sharing the info with our play-testers soon though, and there's still time to join our play-testing crew by contacting me directly via ninjadorg at gmail dot com if you'd like to help out.

Finally, once all of the files for our last game '1066, Tears to Many Mothers' are finalised, we're going to launch our next Kickstarter for the alien terror epic from Mark Chaplin and Toby Farrands 'Lifeform'.  We've uploaded a complete play-through video if you'd like to see if it's something you'd be interested in:

Ciao for now!

Happy 2018 everyone!

So how's everyone doing?  Hope you're well!  Okay, let's get straight down to it...

Yeah - let's start the New Year with another new fantastic review of Gloom of Kilforth:

The Cardboard Herald interviewed me about movies, Tolkien, and, oh yeah, my games...

Here's some nice local press about us:

Not Enough Tears!!

Our second beautiful game '1066, Tears to Many Mothers' has made the final nominations list for Most Anticipated Game of 2018! Please click and thumb it for as many categories as you can: Ctrl + F "1066" really helps - and we really need that help against some of these mega game titles... :)

That said, victory is about choosing your battles and let's face it: we're getting firmly spanked in every category except Historical - and the only games beating us there are fictional, so please get thumbing peeps! Vote for 1066, Tears to Many Mothers as Most Anticipated in the Historical category and help give us the wings (and wins) we need:

Australia Only Mini-Update - good news for Oz shipping costs!!
over 1 year ago – Mon, Dec 18, 2017 at 11:45:14 PM

Hi guys,

If you're not from Australia you can ignore this update, but have a brilliant holiday anyway, and let's hang out again in the New Year! If you are from down under please read on...

AUSTRALIAN BACKERS, thanks for your feedback on the shipping guys. After lots of phone calls and messages this weekend we’ve toiled tirelessly and managed to work something out that we’re very excited about!

Due to the large number of Australian backers in this campaign we have been able to partner with Let’s Play Games, an Australian distribution company who will now be providing local fulfilment across Australia. This means we have been able to cap shipping costs for Australia backers at £16 for all pledge levels, including Hall In! :)

Let’s Play are also now taking Gloom of Kilforth to retail in Australia as well, which is flipping awesome.

Don’t worry if you only backed for Encounters at £12 shipping - this will remain the same. If you have already selected your shipping at the higher rate you should be able to go into your pledge and change it, if you are still having problems and/or have already paid just email me at ninjadorg at gmail dot com and I’ll sort it out for you directly.

Okay, that's all for now, loads more exciting things to come in 2018 - have a brilliant break everyone!
