Gloom of Kilforth: A Fantasy Quest Game Expansions

Created by Tristan Hall

Gloom of Kilforth is a game of high fantasy with a gothic edge, where 1-4 players, working individually or together, assume the roles of heroes on a journey through a dark world of magic and peril. Each player follows their hero’s tale, an epic saga from modest beginnings through to a climactic battle that will decide the fate of the world...

Happy New Year everybody!!

It's only a couple of days after new year so I think we can still get away with saying that...

A bit of a break from the norm for this update - we'll return to written ramblings for future updates - I've put together a 20 minute video telling you where we're up to and what to expect from Hall or Nothing in 2019. So when you get chance, grab a brew and maybe put a more interesting screensaver on to watch than my phizog whilst you catch up with us:

 Have a brilliant 2019 everyone!

Gloom of Kilforth, December 2018 - Printing Underway!!
over 5 years ago – Wed, Dec 05, 2018 at 12:38:10 AM

Howdy folks - I'll try to be brief so you can all get back to your holiday shenanigans, but we have some cool pics to share...

Printing has begun!!

I've approved the pre-production copies of everything, it all looks fantastic! And we're hoping to have printing wrapped up and on the boat in January, which means:

For delivery for all of your goodies we're aiming at Quarter 1, 2019.

Shadows of Kilforth: February 2019!!

Now that the re-printing of GoK has begun, we're just a few short months away from the games and expansions finally arriving in your hands. We've also submitted the print files for our other game Lifeform, which will be landing in Quarter 1 next year too. And our second game 1066, Tears to Many Mothers has just landed in backers' hands to fantastic reviews too.

Next year we'll be launching 1565, St Elmo's Pay (the successor to 1066, TtMM) and Sublime Dark (a gruesome horror game), but first we need to tackle the issue of the 1,000+ of you who have already backed our sequel to Gloom of Kilforth, Shadows of Kilforth: A Fantasy Quest Game (previously known as Touch of Death)

So it is with delight and giddiness that I can tell you we're going to hit the launch button for our next game Shadows of Kilforth in February next year!

To those waiting for GoK first instead: that's totally cool too. 1,000+ people have already backed Shadows of Kilforth, and we owe them something truly beautiful already, so don't mind us whilst we crack on, and hopefully we'll see you in the pledge manager later on once you have your goodies.

So the pressure is instead on us to deliver Shadows of Kilforth to the many backers who have already made it happen. Therefore we're going to run a shorter Kickstarter, in a shorter month (Feb), with a lower funding goal, so that if enough of you do decide to show up we can roll in some juicy expansion content too. And if that happens we might see Pimp My Shadows, Dark Shadows, and Shadows: Encounters too...

Cheer-oh for now!!

How dee-diddly-do neighbourinos??

Happy anniversary!!

Yep, it's been a year since the campaign already, and yes I wish we'd been able to deliver the game earlier. It's not an excuse, but just for context, there's been an inordinate amount of stuff to manage...

Statsies!!

For anyone who is interested: across the Kilforth line of games/expansions alone, so far there are now well over 600 images, plus another 100+ images which didn't make the cut, over 800 unique cards and a bunch of rule-books, with 80,000+ words of rules and flavour text so far! :D  Apropos of nothing, is there any word on how cloning technology is coming along??

Here's another taster from Shadows of Kilforth:

Delivery??

We have submitted ALL of the final files to print for the game and all the expansions in all languages - WOO HOO!!

Panda are going to print as soon as possible. If they finish before Christmas, the games and expansions still have to ship out from China to our fulfilment centres, and then from our fulfilment centres to you guys. This is not a short process so our expected delivery period is now Quarter 1, 2019.

This process has been necessarily glacial. For example: last week I thought everything was already lined up and ready to go. I printed off the "FINAL" digital proofs for the umpteenth time to go over everything over many insanely long shifts with Mrs NinjaDorg and a fine-toothed comb, only to discover that a single letter from a chapter heading in the rulebook had fallen outside of its banner at some point. You might think we could let that go and just go to print anyway, but that's not how my brain operates. If we've spotted an error in time, it has to be changed, the files updated and resubmitted, and the digital proofs of the game updated and/or reset by the factory to re-confirm.

Typos might slip through in any case, especially when we're monitoring so many thousands of details, words and stats, but I honestly wouldn't be able to sleep if I knew that I'd let one slip by on purpose. And that's just one of the reasons why this is the best looking game you've ever seen, and that there is still nothing else quite like it out there on the market!

Pimp Dicies!!

The Pimp My Gloom dice are looking super sexy - thank goodness, cos I agonised over the pantones on these - and I'm sure you'll agree that they are a lovely level of pimped up:

People's Choice 2018 Top 100 Solo Games!!

Don't forget that voting has started on the People's Choice Top Solo Games of 2018. So if you have played the game and if you are so inclined to vote for Gloom of Kilforth: A Fantasy Quest Game please feel free to bob over and support the 1 Player Guild by casting your vote for it - and for all your own Top 20 solo games of 2018 - submit your votes here:

Well met, friends - we do hope you're very well indeedy!

Final Files Submitted!!

We've gone back and forth on the final files with Panda, ensuring that all language versions are consistent, and we've now submitted all of the final English and German files to Panda (the French versions are about 90% completed). With nearly 400 unique cards, a metric tonne of artwork, and numerous international teams it's been tricky getting everything just right, but Panda are already moving with the digital proofs for us. Dice and wood production is already underway too. We've even opted for some snazzy marbled-effect dice for Pimp My Gloom! They'll still be the same size as your existing dice for the base game, they're just going to look significantly sexier.

The next step is for Panda to send me pre-production copies of the expansion content for final approval (we've already approved the base game) and then we're off to print with everything. As always we will keep you posted on progress as we go of course.

New Art!!

Here's a quick teaser taster for you guys - probably the last before you get the games in hand:

ESSEN AGAIN!!!

I'm very much looking forward to attending Essen again, and will be demoing my other game 1066, Tears to Many Mothers at the Schwerkraft-Verlag stand, so please come and say hello if you happen to be at the show. It will be great to see you there. And I'm looking forward to stalking my heroes again like in 2017 - can't believe it's been a year already...

Howdy-doody??

What a month it's been!

Progress!!

We have sent the final graphics files to Panda and we're just waiting for the translation teams to come through with the final German and French translations so we can all go to print together and manufacturing will begin. Manufacturing should take a couple of months, then shipping will begin. So if we can get all the final foreign language files submitted in the next couple of weeks, manufacturing will take a month or so after that, and then we're looking at October/November before the games and all expansions are on the boat.

Reference Sheet!!

These are the actual reference sheets that we'll be printing for inclusion in the Pimp My Gloom expansion box (four copies, one for each player) - they wouldn't fit on a playing card so we pimped them out to A4 on nice thick card. We're also including a free one in each copy of the reprint now too. :) Keep your eyes peeled for any errors or anything that's unclear - let us know in the comments - and special thanks to Tor Gjerde for his original design, which has only been tweaked slightly.

Here's my local TV interview about the first print run of Gloom of Kilforth in case you missed it:

GenCon 2018!!

I experienced my first GenCon this year, and wowsers, it was absolutely fantastic. Thanks to all of you who stopped me to say hello, Americans are so welcoming - you made me feel very much at home away from home whilst I was missing my family. I had lots of cool meetings and of course ran after and stalked some of my gaming heroes:
