Gloom of Kilforth: A Fantasy Quest Game Expansions

Created by Tristan Hall

Gloom of Kilforth is a game of high fantasy with a gothic edge, where 1-4 players, working individually or together, assume the roles of heroes on a journey through a dark world of magic and peril. Each player follows their hero’s tale, an epic saga from modest beginnings through to a climactic battle that will decide the fate of the world...

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Gloom of Kilforth: Encounters, Day 15 - Touch of Death
over 6 years ago – Sat, Oct 14, 2017 at 12:42:02 AM

Hi everybody and happy Friday!!!

How are we all today?  Shall we have a peek at the stats?

£119,657 pledged 443% funded 2,013 backers 18 days to go!!!

Wowserinos!  Another stretch goal within grabbing distance - does anyone want to take it?  No?  Okay, then let's get on with it...

Touch of Death: A Fantasy Quest Game??!!

Due to some fantastic social media sharing and liking you guys managed to draw back the curtain over the £150,615 (which is the total funding from our two previous Kickstarter campaigns in case you were wondering) Stretch Goal.  Understandably, this drew many questions, so let's talk about it now.  And remember, this is all completely speculative, because we are still a looong way from that Stretch Goal target...

What is Touch of Death?

It's a stand-alone expansion, basically the same game as Gloom of Kilforth, same rules, same mechanics, but with entirely new content - new heroes, new encounters, new rewards, new ancients, etc.  You will be able to play Gloom of Kilforth OR Touch of Death independently, OR you can shuffle all of the decks together to double the variety and content of your games.

Will it feature Bela Lugosi?

I’m afraid not!

Should I add the £48 to my pledge now?

We will not unlock Touch of Death until we reach that £150,615 mark, so please only pledge responsibly.

What's gonna happen to the new stretch goals after Touch of Death?

We’re reaching the upper limit of what we can include in Encounters now. But if we unlock Touch of Death, who knows...

What is the card count & Type for Touch of Death?

Touch of Death would contain a very similar quantity of content as the original Gloom of Kilforth game, pre-stretch goals.  Approximately 234 poker sized cards, 32 mini-sized cards to start with….

Will ToD require separate shipping?

ToD would require additional wave 3 shipping, yes.

Will it be available in the BackerKit Pledge Manager?

IF we hit ToD it will be made available as an add-on in the pledge manager yes.

Will it be ready on time or will it delay the shipping deadlines?

Touch of Death would be in its own shipping wave, so won’t affect any other products.

Will there be another Kickstarter for Touch of Death (seems a shame not to)?

We could potentially roll-call another Kickstarter once we have the delivery date closing in, give it that final push.

If we back Touch of Death now will we get the stretch goals from any future Kickstarter campaign for Touch of Death?

Yes.

It seems like we're effectively early-pledging for ToD, and, when the KS rolls around, we already have a credit in place?

Yep, that about sums it up.

How was Bladerunner 2049?

The Bladerunner sequel is SUBLIME.  Epic sci-fi writ large, achingly beautiful, gorgeous sound track, dwarfs the original in scope. Plus #DreamboatGosling... 5/5 But you should almost certainly re-watch the original before you go see the new one - I did and was very glad for it...  (Okay, maybe I didn't need to re-post ALL of your questions from the comments...)

Interview!!

I had a super chat about all things game and gaming with Mike Wall over at A Wargamer's Needful Things:

French version of Touch of Death!!

Here's a quick word from Nuts to our French backers:

- Nous ne ferons pas de version française de Touch of death lors de cette campagne Kickstarter

- Quand le temps sera venu, nous mettrons ce projet en précommande sur notre site.

Gloom of Kilforth: Encounters, Day 13 - Dark Gloom Previews
over 6 years ago – Wed, Oct 11, 2017 at 11:43:46 PM

Hi everybody!

How are we all today?  In British offices we call Wednesday 'hump day' (easy, tiger) because once you've smashed it you're on the downhill slide to the weekend.  But for Hall or Nothing, every day is a Friday!  Especially when we're rattling along at a good old pace here considering it's the middle of the campaign, and we're still smashing £2,000+ per day...

£117,751 pledged 436% funded 1,984 backers 20 days to go!!

Staff Favourites!!

We're now officially a Staff Favourite of BackerKit:

https://www.backerkit.com/blog/staff-favorites-the-spinner-cube-action-jacket-fluent-forever-app-and-more/

Our très bons amis at Passion Board Games have shared a French preview of the game for all of our French backers - why does everything sound sexier in French??

http://www.passionboardgames.com/articles/gloom-of-kilforth-presentement-sur-kickstarter/

Dark Gloom!!

And finally here's a little sneak peak of the Dark Gloom expansion pack that quite a few of you have been asking for.  Remember, Dark Gloom is not required for play, it's an alternative art set.  I've posted the link up separately on our blog so if you are of a sensitive disposition we're not spamming your inbox with the images, so please, click through at your discretion:

http://ratdorg.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/dark-gloom-art-example-previews-old-vs.html

Share the Load!!

Finally, it looks like we've stopped getting shares on our Facebook post to reveal the £150,615 Stretch Goal, which is kind of a shame considering we only needed 14 more Shares to go:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1362946500455410/permalink/1501864526563606

But hey, I guess we'll find out what it is anyway after you guys smash it, right?  ;)

Gloom of Kilforth: Encounters, Day 11 - Grace Under Pressure + Ratings!!
over 6 years ago – Tue, Oct 10, 2017 at 06:29:41 PM

Hey everyone, how the blooming heck are you all?

Let's pop a tune on the juke box...

https://youtu.be/6zHU7HeoktY

What a lovely weekend we've had, as evidenced by these terrific stats...

£113,544 pledged 420% funded 1,921 backers 22 days to go!!!

Sill jiggling like a loon over here at these numbers but since it's October we need a more Halloween friendly dance this time around...

I'm especially grateful to you all to be in this lucky position this time around because - and don't worry, I won't harken back to it in every single update - on Day 11 of our first Kickstarter we were just over 50% funded, so everything was still up in the air whilst we were on tenterhooks watching the whole thing unfold, not knowing whether or not we would even got into production with the game.  Now we have a whole new set of shiny tenterhooks to climb onto, or perch on, or pitch our tent with, or, you know, whatever the heck it is you're supposed to do with tenterhooks.  And this time the nerves and excitement revolve around just how high we can go with this thing.

Now I know from past experience with the figures that you all like to tell a good story and make a great drama out of our Kickstarters, so I'm not writing anything off, and in fact I'm a little too excited about the prospect of hitting that £150,615 goal, so let's not level out the wings of this plane just yet.  Let's see if we can push on out of the stratosphere and wave to Felix Baumgartner's balloons on our way past.  Because there's still stuff you can do to help...

Ratings!!

We've obviously got a fantastic split of old and new backers here, and so I'd like to ask all of you veterans who have already played the game and love it to help us out.  Please, if you haven't already, head over to boardgamegeek and give Gloom of Kilforth a star rating out of 10 along with any comments you might have about the game:

https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/98527/gloom-kilforth-fantasy-quest-game

You can also rate Hall or Nothing Productions Ltd as a company out of 5 on Facebook too:

https://www.facebook.com/hallornothingproductions

I'm not telling you what to rate it or us of course, because that would be shilling.  But you can really help put us on the map by voting with your clicks.  It might not seem like much of a thing to do, but the reason we have been able to sign international retailer and language deals, and the reason we are back here on Kickstarer, smashing Stretch Goals to death with a feverish fervour, is because the game is so highly rated by you guys - an 8/10 average rating on BGG is really pretty incredible for an indie like us with no prior titles to our name.

So please keep up the great work, keep liking, sharing, chatting about the game in every forum you can, and generally continue being the absolutely awesome individuals who you all are, who incidentally happen to make up the coolest group of peeples on the entirety of the interwebs!

Tangent - The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game!!

In today's update I've got a little treat for you.  It's a little tangential, but it gives you a little more ken about who I am and some of the events that led me to being here on Kickstarter in front of you all, and it's about a pretty damned cool card game...

Some time back I was able to talk to one of my idols in the gaming industry, Galeb Grace, lead designer on The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, Fantasy Flight Games' redonculously popular Middle-Earth based Living Card Game.  Caleb kindly agreed to come and have a natter on our little podcast #BoardChitless.  This was a great opportunity because the last time I'd spoken to Caleb was only ever by email several years back when the Lord of the Rings LCG was in its infancy and I was play-testing the first few cycles for FFG and putting out previews of the Nightmare decks for them on my ratdorg blorg.

Some of you might not know this but as a huge fan of the game I designed a number of fanmade scenarios to squeeze some extra replayability out of the core set.  These scenarios, published under my boardgamegeek name 'ninjadorg' scored tens of thousands of downloads from my blog and BGG, and were translated into many different languages too:

https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/66659/ninjadorgs-lotr-lcg-scenarios

Always a tinkerer, I'd helped to develop some fanmade community campaigns for the Dungeons and Dragons Adventure System games before, which went down pretty well too, but it was the hugely positive reception and feedback about these Lord of the Rings scenarios that helped give me the confidence to bring my own designs - including Gloom of Kilforth - into the public eye.  It was also these scenarios which brought me to the attention of FFG, who asked if I'd like to be a play-tester in the first instance.

TL:DR, here's me chatting to the most excellent dude Caleb Grace about his Herculean work on The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game on our #BoardChitless podcast (Kickstarter is refusing to embed this so we'll have to make do with a stone-age hyperlink instead):

https://youtu.be/vY3cfHR7HTo

Good night gentle readers, sleep peacefully and rest tonight, for tomorrow we continue the long march through the Gloom towards the close of Chapter 2...

Tristan xx

PS.  Look out for this little dude stinking up your expansion...

Watch out - given the chance he will **** your **** up.
Watch out - given the chance he will **** your **** up.

Gloom of Kilforth: Encounters, Day 7 - Gloom Ascending!!
over 6 years ago – Mon, Oct 09, 2017 at 12:02:17 AM

Hi everyone,

What a day!!!  We broke a new Hall or Nothing record and smashed 6 figures!!!!

£102,049 pledged 377% funded 1,737 backers 26 days to go!!!

I don't know what made me think of this but if Michael Caine knew what you'd done with the original funding goal he'd be annoyed with you all...

I don't care if I'm over-using exclamation marks today, I think they're warranted - and even if Terry Pratchett was right about them being a sure sign of madness (which he was) I still say they are needed.  This is absolutely bananas and I'm still doing a little bit of a dance right now (it's nearly 1am over here), which is why it's been harder to put together this update for you...

Remember when Val Kilmer was great? Whaddaya mean, 'No'??
Remember when Val Kilmer was great? Whaddaya mean, 'No'??

Thank you all, each and every one of you, once again for blowing our minds and absolutely smashing it out of the park.  We're dead excited about the £100K stretch goal which we've been working on for some time - Gloom of Kilforth is now available to play digitally, online on www.tabletopia.com!  The guys over there have worked tirelessly to pull it off, and it's a beautiful implementation, so we hope you get the chance to bob over there and check it out for yourselves - it will be absolutely free for the first 12 months too!   :)
